Cycle route to Hindhead
- Ben (7th Oct 2022  10:34:10)

Hi all, I'm trying to find a cycle route to Hindhead, ideally not on the 'cycle path' along the A3. I don't mind a bit of mud but I want it to be reasonably quick. Any useful ideas/suggests would be much appreciated. Thanks

I would go along Hewshott/Hammer lane, then left up Sandy Lane then just over the top of Sandy Lanr, branch off right at the cottages into High Pitfold and then use the underpass to the left under the A3 onto Portsmouth road which has a cycle way up to Hindhead.

Alternatively you could ride through Bramshott up Rectory Lane, turn left at the top, ride along the common and exit the common at Bramshott chase if you dont mind going off road. Then it's a short ride to Hindhead from there.

Hi, here are some of the more scenic ones I've tried (avoiding the A3 as much as possible), not for quite a few years though so things might have changed a bit:

1) Up Rectory Lane, left down to Waggoners Wells, cross over Waggoners Wells Road and follow stream north side ending up either Stoney Bottom or else if you continue it comes out further up (can't recall exactly where). The going can be tough in places. If you follow the stream southside it ends up Kingswood Lane if I recall rightly.

2) Lovely ride up to Ludshott Manor, turn right to Ludshott Common from where you can either cut back down to Waggoners Wells or head up to Headley Road and into Grayshot (slightly easier terrain)

3) Haslemere Road, left Muddy Lane (I think that's what it's called), right Hewshott Lane, past the Manor and stables, bear right downhill and shortly after turn left onto Bramshot Common, turn right brings you out near the Old Spaniards (now BMW)

There are other routes and a lot of these may be technically footpaths, so it's up to your sense of righteousness, but if following a footpath and you're riding ride slowly and courteously, I find people are usually ok with that as there aren't nearly enough good cycle routes round here! Mind you there is one landowner where a public footpath runs through his land up there and if he catches you cycling you will get an earful and chased off:)

Hi ben,
Easiest and most direct cycle route to Hindhead (with a section off road) is:
1: Bramshott Rectory Lane
2: Straight on at the top onto the old Army road onto Bramshott Common.
3: Follow the old Army Road to it's end and go straight on (dirt track).
4: Follow the track to Chase Farm Drive.
5: Turn right and then left onto the Old Portsmouth Road and ride all the way up to Hindhead.
Look at google maps and you'll see the route clearly marked.
