South West Railways
- AF (26th Jan 2023 08:48:39)
Just a quick post to let people know that the train line between Guildford and Petersfield will be closed from the 11-19 February, which i believe is half term.
There are bus replacement services but of course the problem is they may not run due to lack of drivers, and when they have drivers they get lost. On the plus side they never check tickets so could get a free trip up to Guildford.

True, the line is closed at half-term and it will be an inconvenience.
However, the buses on rail replacement are usually very well organised, and the drivers are briefed on the route which may not be the same as the one you or I would take in a car. It can seem a little confusing to anyone who doesn't consider taking a medium or large sized bus around the back roads of Surrey and Hampshire, but they know what they are doing.
And no, I don't work for SWR and yes I will have to plan around that week. But I will be balanced and note SWR are capable of running the rail replacement option.
Have a good week.

On the occasions I used the bus replacement the driver asked the customers for directions. He admitted he didn’t know the route and hadn’t been briefed.
That was only to get from Liphook to Haselmere, best of luck getting to Guildford.Perhaps they will be equipped with sat nav,an up to date one though for round here!
On the plus side he was very pleasant and punctual, unlike some of SWR staff.

Paul
You're wrong and susie is right. I have been on several buses where the driver actually got lost, didn't know the area and had to ask passengers and passers by for directions.
A classic was trying to go from Haslemere to Liphook starting off coming to a low bridge and ended up on a dead end council estate in Shottermill area.
Picture the scene a large 50+ seat coach with one passenger(me) up a dead end at 0830 on a Sunday morning, and the driver getting out and asking the residents for the best way to get to Liphook.
We did get to Liphook in the end and i got £25.00 compensation.

AF - you are not the only person from Liphook commuting. SWR have many problems. I give you that.
I have been on many rail replacement services too. Some last week. They never got lost.
Well done getting your compensation.
